Lesson on Charity
I had an interesting experience today. As you may know I am called as a Teacher's (young men) advisor in the church. My lesson today was on charity and it focused a lot around the parable of the good Samaritan. For the first time ever, I was prompted to end the lesson early and I can say it was probably one of the most profound lessons I have taught and been taught. In the parable, a priest and a Levite pass by the man who is injured on the side of the road. While this doesn't mean a whole lot to us, I tried to make the connection on who it would be in our day. For the LDS church, it would probably be a bishop and a seventy, who pass by. The Samaritan is a little more difficult. It would be someone we wouldn't expect to stop and have compassion. The lesson continued and came to the conclusion that charity is really being able to see others as the Savior views them. The Savior loves each of us the same. Whether we are a bad person or whether we are a good person. Charity, which the Savior says is the second greatest commandment, is to love your neighbor as the Savior loves them.
