Big Sisters

Lilly and Sarah love taking care of their new brother.  It is first thing they talk about when people ask them about something.  It is cute.
Lilly can't decide between posing and holding
I got him
Gus is also one to spend a lot more time on the floor.  I don't think Lilly or Sarah was as happy spending time on the floor.
I love him

Lesson on Charity

I had an interesting experience today.  As you may know I am called as a Teacher's (young men) advisor in the church.  My lesson today was on charity and it focused a lot around the parable of the good Samaritan. For the first time ever, I was prompted to end the lesson early and I can say it was probably one of the most profound lessons I have taught and been taught.  In the parable, a priest and a Levite pass by the man who is injured on the side of the road.  While this doesn't mean a whole lot to us, I tried to make the connection on who it would be in our day.  For the LDS church, it would probably be a bishop and a seventy, who pass by.  The Samaritan is a little more difficult.  It would be someone we wouldn't expect to stop and have compassion.  The lesson continued and came to the conclusion that charity is really being able to see others as the Savior views them.  The Savior loves each of us the same.  Whether we are a bad person or whether we are a good person.  Charity, which the Savior says is the second greatest commandment, is to love your neighbor as the Savior loves them.

First Post? -- or Welcome Gus?

What a better way to start a blog than by announcing the birth of your first child. Well, I can't quite do that, but I can announce the birth of my third child. Angus Robert Blackham was born on Tuesday (Aug 31) at 5:26pm.  Jess was in induced that morning. We got to the hospital around 8am and was all hooked up before 9am.  The morning went along as normal as one could expect.  When the doctor came in around lunch time to break the water, Gus had his hand over his head.  This meant that if the water was broken, there was a high chance of his hand going first which would mean a C-section.  Not wanting that, the water wasn't broken and we waited.  Shortly after that, Jess had the Anesthesiologist come in to give her an epidural.  It took the doctor, a few times and he ended up placing it in a spot that didn't work, so he had to come back 45 minutes later and move it to another spot.  Jess finally got relaxed with everything around 2:30pm, and we waited.  The doctor returned around 4pm.  Gus had moved his hand and everything looked in position.  They broke her water around 4:40pm.  Things started to happen pretty quickly after that.  About 5pm, the doctors told Jess that they were going to get everything setup for her to push.  After things were setup, they started having Jess push and within 5 pushes, Gus was out.  He weighed 7 lb. 8 oz. and was 19.5 " long.

Don't forget to check out the hair
One of the few things I noticed was that Gus's head was completely round.  He was still pretty high up when Jess started pushing, so he didn't spend much time in the birth canal.

What a cute Momma
I brought the girls and Grandma Gloria to the hospital shortly after the birth and they were very excited to see their new baby brother.
Isn't that a cute smile?
She is getting good at this grandma stuff
Everything went smooth at the hospital and we left around 4pm the next day.  Gus was under 24hrs old. I thought it was fast, but Jess was ready to be home.
I don't want to go home :)
Well maybe I just want to sleep
